Green Star Awareness
The Green Star™ program is run by the Green Building Council of Australia.
The Green Star Awareness Course has been developed for trades people working on a Green Star site. It teaches the required skills knowledge for:
- a basic overview of the Green Star program
- awareness of sustainability principles in the construction industry
- recycling of construction waste
- construction waste minimisation
- compliance with Green Star™ requirements

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to participate in environmentally sustainable work practices.
The unit requires the ability to identify current resource usage in the workplace and contribute to ensuring compliance with legislative requirements. It also requires the capacity to contribute to improvements in sustainable work practices. It is essential that the organisation's approach to ensuring environmentally sustainable work practices, and the benefits that they bring, are understood.
Engaging the 'boots on the ground' will result in:
- Lower labour costs for sustainable construction
- Improved work efficiency
- Better documentation of sustainable work practices and requirements
Training and education of trades people is vital to successful implementation of sustainable building practices. Although the design of a building contributes greatly to its sustainability, engaging in the sustainability conversation the contractors and trades who will actually build the project is just as important.

Duration: 16 hours on-line + 4 hours on-site
Outcome: Nationally recognised qualification issued by Foundation Training Australia RTO 31972
Delivery method: On-line, using the GBI e-learning system. Lessons feature high quality multi-media and animation, and video response technology
